Candy Cane Nail Stamping

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Yeah yeah yeah, I know. It's New Year's Eve and here I am showing you one more holiday mani. Well, in Puerto Rico, the holidays aren't over until January 6 so candy canes are still appropriate. I don't know about you guys but I love peppermint flavored/scented things so I would rock candy cane nails any day of the year. I'd show you guys a New Year's Eve mani but I haven't decided what to do yet. I'd like something blingy but feel it's not worth the trouble since I'm not going anywhere special. Enough rambling, read on for more about my candy canes!

High Fructose Victory Swatches and Review - Quaint Paints Lacquer

quaint-paints-lacquer-high-fructose-victory-swatch

Hi guys, I have a Sunday morning post for you today. I hope you've all had a lovely post-holiday weekend. I've been trying to get this post written for a couple hours now but my son is right in the middle of the terrible twos stage and the morning tantrums are awful. He's currently on my lap watching educational videos on YouTube while I'm typing one handed on my PC and drinking my homemade peppermint mocha in a giant mug. Such is the life of a mom nail polish blogger.

Now, on to the polish! You ever receive a brand new polish and gasp when you put it on? And then not want to take it off because it ends up being so much prettier than the swatches you've seen online? That's what happened to me with High Fructose Victory from Quaint Paints Lacquer. Laura, the creator of Quaint Paints, sent me High Fructose Victory and Polishin' Around the Christmas Tree to review so read on for more swatches and my thoughts. (You can see my review of Polishin' Around the Christmas Tree here.)

Christmas Poinsettia Nail Art

Hi guys! I hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday, those who celebrate Christmas and those who don't as well. I was able to squeeze in this mani in the morning while my kids where busy playing with their toys.

noodles-nail-polish-underneath-mistletoe

Hi guys! Today I'm participating in the Hobby Polish Bloggers December link up. HPB is a Facebook group founded by Steph from www.imperfectlypainted.com for the casual nail polish blogger. It's a great place for newbies like me to learn from more experience bloggers and get to know each other better.

This month's theme is Holiday or Winter. I chose to do some Christmas tree nails with Noodles Nail Polish Underneath the Mistletoe. Read on after the break for more pics and a macro shot of this gorgeous green polish.

Polishin' Around the Christmas Tree

Friday, December 19, 2014

I love the name of this polish so much I just had to use it for the post title! Today I have swatches and a review of Polishin' Around the Christmas Tree by Quint Paint Lacquer, a brand new indie. This is a sparkly topper with multicolored metallic circle glitters, Christmas tree glitters, and gold shimmer flakies in a clear base. I chose this slightly blurry pic because it shows the sparkles so well. It made my nails perfectly match my Christmas tree. There's more swatches and a close-up shot after the break!

I have some cozy nail art for you guys today. Back in November I was trying to keep up with the #pymnovember challenges hosted by Push Your Mani on IG but I didn't have the time. I really liked the flannel/plaid nails prompt so I went ahead and did them anyway. Click for more after the break!

For this weekend I have some swatches and accent stamping of Pahlish Hatfield House. This is a dark evergreen jelly with red shimmer from the fall Royal Reverie collection. I really like this color and I'm sad that I haven't seen that many swatches of it. I have a close up and more after the break!

Neon Leopard Nail Art

Thursday, December 4, 2014
pink-orange-gradient-leopard-spot-stamping-nail-art

Today I have a bright neon gradient with leopard spot accents using Orly nail polishes, KBShimmer Spot Sign leopard glitter and Cupcake Polish Chicago to stamp with. I'm aware that it's winter but I live in the tropics so neon is always in style. In my defense, I did these in October...not that it makes much of a difference. But October in PR is still really warm so yeah... Anyways, more pics after the break!

Thanksgiving 2014 Mani

Friday, November 28, 2014

Hi guys! I'm back! I've been gone all week because I got sick. First I injured my right wrist, then the next day I came down with a fever and severe joint pain. As the days went on I also developed swelling in my fingers and feet plus intense muscles spasms. That was followed by an all over itchy, red, rash. At first I thought it was the flu, but as new symptoms kept appearing it became clear that I had chikungunya, which is a mosquito transmitted tropical virus that's causing an epidemic in Puerto Rico at the moment. I didn't go to the Dr, because my husband got it a few months earlier and had the exact same symptoms. There's nothing you can do about it expect treat the symptoms and wait for it to pass.

The worst thing about this virus is the joint pain and in my case, the swelling. It's very debilitating and you're basically stuck in bed all day. Now as a mom, that sounds like heaven, except it wasn't since I was in a lot of pain and with chills from the fever. Today is the first day that the swelling and pain in my hands is low enough for me to sit on the computer and type so I wanted to share the quick mani I did yesterday for Thanksgiving. There's more after the break!

OPI Get Your Number

Hi guys! Today I have some simple yet stunning (in my opinion) gradient nail art with a chevron accent. For this mani I used OPI Liquid Sand colors from the Mariah Carey collection, the blue is Get Your Number and the purple is Can't Let Go. I created the chevrons with nail vinyls from Glam My Mani that where sent to me for review. I have more pics including some macros/close-ups and a picture tutorial after the break!

Winter Wishes Stamping and Review

Friday, November 14, 2014

Hi guys! Today I have the last polish from Paint Shop Polish to show you. The sun finally came out and I was able to grab some good shots. This is Winter Wishes, a dark sorta silvery blue with a slight purple-ness to it, I'd accurately describe it as a dark periwinkle with scattered holographic shimmer. I've got more swatches and some winter stamping I did with Winter Wishes as my base after the break!

African Tulip Fall Floral Nail Art

Hi guys! Today I have another installment in the Colors of My Island series, where I pick something that I love about my island home of Puerto Rico and either do some nail art or feature a nail polish color that inspired me. Going with a fall floral theme, I choose to do African Tulip flowers. I have more pictures after the break!

Winter Wishes Stamping and Review

Saturday, November 8, 2014
paintshoppolish-winter-2014-collage

Hi guys! For today's Simple Swatch Saturday I have swatches and a review of part of Paint Shop Polish's new Winter 2014 collection. I have two of the new glitters Stuff My Stocking and Snow Mouse 2.0. I owe you a third polish, a very pretty blue, scattered holo called Winter Wishes because it's been cloudy and rainy all week so I couldn't capture it well on camera. I will hopefully have swatches and nail art with that one next week. Read on after the break for more pictures and the review!

Neon Holographic Stamping

Thursday, November 6, 2014
neon-holographic-stamping-konad-nail-art

Hi guys, lately I've been feeling...well to be honest, somewhat depressed. I hate being a Debbie Downer so I won't bring you all down with details but it's definitely impacted my blogging and nail art lately. One thing that's been happening is that I haven't had as much time to post. This whole nail art and blogging thing is a form of therapy for me, so when I can't do it as often as I'd like, I get upset. And when I get upset, I like sparkly, rainbowy, colorful nails to cheer me up, even if it's just for a moment. Since I've always seen nail art as therapy, I like to use the colors not necessarily to express my mood, but to alter it when I'm upset. So without further ado, I bring you some bright neon, holographic, stamped nails!

More pics, plus a small how to, after the break!

6 Month Blogversary & Breaking the Biting Habit Update

Sunday, November 2, 2014
mamaheartspolish-6-months-update

Hi guys! It's my 6 month blogversary! I know that's not really a milestone people celebrate but I'm still excited for it. I haven't been able to post as much as I'd like the past two weeks due to different life issues and it makes me sad. I do try to keep updating on my Instagram so make sure you're following me there since it's the easiest way to keep up with me, especially when my schedule gets real busy. To celebrate my 6 months of blogging I have a Breaking the Biting Habit update, since that is the whole point of this blog in the 1st place. The picture above shows some of the progress through the months, since June last year, to May this year when I started the blog, to this morning. There's tons more after the break!

Fall Mosaic Stamping

Wednesday, October 22, 2014
fall-mosaic-stamping-dry-brush-nail-art

Hi guys! Today I have some more stamping. Since getting my Messy Mansion soft-med stamping head, it's just become so much easier that I want to stamp all the manis! This is a double technique look that's actually quite easy. I used China Glaze Hey Doll as my base plus a whole bunch of other colors that I thinned and then dried brushed on with a small flat rectangular brush. Click on "read more" for more pics and to see how I did it.

ORLY Sweet Tart Swatch

Saturday, October 18, 2014
orly-sweet-tart-red-jelly-swatch

Today is Simple Swatch Saturday with a bit of a nail polish fail thrown in. This was supposed to be my 1st attempt at a pond mani...yeah...nope. Can you see the flowers I stamped in between the layers of the red? Not really. Sigh. Anyway, the color is gorgeous so it still works as a great swatch! This is ORLY Sweet Tart, a red jelly that's so squishy and shiny and candy-like.

Pahlish - La Dernière Reine

pahlish-la-derniere-reine-swatch-review

This week the Pahlish Lovers group on Facebook is hosting a Pahlish Week to show our support and love for maker Shannon cause she's been going through some stuff. We're going to be using the hashtag #teampahlish to show off our Pahlish manis. I'm wearing La Dernière Reine from the 2014 Royal Reverie fall collection with a stamped accent nail.

New York Color- Spring Street Swatch

Saturday, October 11, 2014
new-york-color-spring-street-swatch-review

Hi guys, today I have a very short and sweet post. I have several family members who aren't feeling well for different reasons and this is one super tired momma. (I've been up since 3:30 am or so with my toddler.)

It's Simple Swatch Saturday and I have New York Color In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry polish in Spring Street. This is a gorgeous red orange creme, just one careful coat for the pictures, it's that opaque. Just a beautiful color and great for stamping. No staining and easy clean up, perfect creme formula. Not only is this a great color but it's only about $2. I got mine at my local Walmart.

I hope everyone else is having a fun (and more restful) weekend!

Stalking is encouraged! Go follow Mama Hearts Polish at Bloglovin, Facebook, and Instagram!

Pink Glitter and Chevron Nails

Pretty-and-polished-contents-under-texture-swatch

I have some pink nail art for you today. I did these about a month ago but hadn't gotten around to posting them. I had Pretty and Polished's Contents Under Texture sitting in my untried box for a while so I really wanted to do something cute with it. I paired it with China Glaze's Astro-hot and actually sandwiched it between layers of ORLY's Uncharted.

Today I have the second installment of my Colors of My Island series. This one is a bit different, it's nail art based on a picture taken by my best friend, Arelis (@originaltemplate), of lightning at night over San Juan.

Color Club The Uptown - New Formula

Wednesday, October 1, 2014
the-uptown-new-formula-collage

Today's regularly schedule post has been postponed (what? You think I just post whenever, nah...I have a schedule, with Google calendar reminders and everything...although I don't tend to stick to it...heh.) Anyways, recently I found myself in the middle of a small controversy...or a large one if you where also searching for the Uptown like I was. My #1 polish lemming, the one thing I couldn't find and really wanted, is Color Club's The Uptown, from 2013's fall collection. It was a sheer purple jelly with color-shifting flakes. It's been sold out online for months and I can't find Color Club locally (I found some random bottles at CVS once, and got all excited, dragged my kids through the entire beauty section until I finally asked an employee if they had more in the hopes that The Uptown would be there but sadly, no).
