About Me

Who am I? I'm Nadia, a Puerto Rican mom of 2 kids who relocated to Florida and loves her nail polish. I'm a self confessed sci-fi and book nerd with an art degree, a husband, and a dog.

Why do I blog? I've been biting my nails since I was about 8 years old. Over 10 years ago I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder. That's when I realized that in my case, my nail biting was a big part of it. I've always liked nail polish and had a small collection of Essie polishes and other drugstore brands. In 2011 I realized that the best way for me to finally stop biting them was by keeping my nails polished. I attempted many times to stop biting and failed, so on May 2014 I decided to start this blog as a way of chronicling the journey and keeping myself accountable. I used to share my monthly progress with my Breaking the Biting Habit. However, I haven't updated it in a long time because I've simply stopped biting my nails.

What can you find in this blog? When in it comes to nail polish, you'll find 100% honest reviews, swatches, and simple nail art. I'm a stay at home mom with two high energy kids, I don't have time to spend hours working on nail art. Along with my reviews, I feature nail art looks that are quick and easy to do. You can also check out my video tutorials in my channel: http://youtube.com/mamaheartspolishblog.

Occasionally, I'll also blog about other things in my life, like beauty, health, skin care, my attempts to lose weight via cycling and walking, fashion, living in the theme park capital of the world (aka Central FL), and life with kids and pets.

How do I take my photos? As of Jan 1, 2016 I'm using a Nikon Coolpix S7000 point and shoot, and two desktop lamps with a daylight bulb and an Ottlite), over a simple black background. I use Photoshop CS2 to add a watermark and crop or rotate photos. If I have to do more editing than that, usually for color correcting, I'll let you know in the post.

Press Samples Most of what you see on this blog has been purchased by me and I have not received any type of payment or compensation for my swatches or reviews. I do occasionally accept press samples in exchange for my swatches and honest reviews. Posts will be identified with a button saying either Purchased by me, Press Sample, or Gift or Giveaway Prize. Everything I write will always be 100% my honest opinion. For the complete legalese, head on over to my Disclosure Policy.

Contact If you would like for me to work with you or your brand, feel free to send me an email to nadia.l.velez(@)gmail(.)com (without the parenthesis).
