Essie-Leggy-Legend-Frock-n-roll-swatches

Yeah...I know, a lot of you have seen these already. I've had these swatches done for at least 2 months now. About 2 weeks after I posted the Bell Bottom Blue swatches, I went back to the store to get these two and swatched them the next day. But press samples and nail art took precedence so I'm only getting around to sharing them now. Anyway, here are my swatches and review of Essie Leggy Legend and Frock N' Roll.

Essie Leggy Legend is a shimmery gold metallic. It had a weird formula for me. It wasn't a creme, or a straight up metallic, I found it had almost a jelly consistency with the metallic particles suspended in the base. It's hard for me to explain and I didn't notice other bloggers talking about this so it makes me wonder if it's just me. I found it made the polish a little hard to work with, but not in the way most Essies are (too thin/sheer/runny). It was hard to spread around the nail and if I went over it to many times, the brush bristles would pull up on the previous layer. I had to be very careful, waiting until the 1st coat was dry before adding the 2nd one. However, the final result is quite stunning. Swatch is 2 coats without topcoat. Dry time was about 10-15 minutes.

Frock N' Roll

Essie Frock N' Roll is a creme based dark "espresso" with silver shimmer. Ok, Essie says this color is supposed to be "espresso" so I'm guessing a shade of brown. It's not brown. To me, it looks more like a purplish grey. It completely photographed grey for me, like a slightly red-leaning grey. Maybe a dark purple depending on who you ask. My husband thought it was somewhere between purple and brown but wasn't really sure. I dunno, whatever, it's still pretty. Formula was wonderful, 2 easy coats, easily just 1 coat if I had wanted. Swatch is 2 coats with topcoat. I did have some slight staining around my cuticles and skin during clean up, which is really obvious in the macro. Dry time was also around 10-15 minutes.

I didn't pick the rest of the Essie fall collection, other than these two and Bell Bottom Blues but I've read that the formulas are for the most part a huge improvement, several are nice 1 coaters. Hopefully that's a trend that'll continue.

  2. I haven't seen these before. Great swatches. I am not am Essie fan. They are way overpriced and I think don't gel well with my body chemistry as they alway chip within hours of applying them.

  4. Frock n roll looks really pretty. I don't have many Essie's because the brush is too small.
